Thermodynamic Properties of Humid Gases from First Principles

چکیده

Numerous scientific and industrial situations require thermodynamic properties of gas mixtures containing water. Examples include the development of humidity standards (where the dominant correction is the nonideality of water in the vapor phase) and design calculations for the utilization of synthesis and combustion gases in advanced power-generation cycles. In many of these cases, the conditions of temperature and pressure are such that the appropriate level of description is that of the second virial coefficient, the first-order correction to the idealgas law.

Structural and thermodynamic properties of Alumina

We have investigated the electronic structure and thermodynamic properties of supercell of the -Al2O3 by first-principles calculation in framework of density functional theory (DFT) and full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) with generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and by quasi-harmonic Debye model. Our calculated value for direct band gap of α-Al2O3 is 7.2 eV which i...

Thermodynamic properties of sea air

Very accurate thermodynamic potential functions are available for fluid water, ice, seawater and humid air covering wide ranges of temperature and pressure conditions. They permit the consistent computation of all equilibrium properties as, for example, required for coupled atmosphereocean models or the analysis of observational or experimental data. With the exception of humid air, these poten...

Calculation of Thermodynamic properties of Fluid Using a New Equation of State

Using the Lennard-Jones (12-6) potential, a new equation of state is obtained that can predict properties of both gases and liquids relatively well. This equation of state is given as (Z-a)V2=(A/V2)-B, where Z is the compressibility factor, A and B are constants, and a is an adjustable parameter that depends on the temperature, volume and the nature of the fluid, and i...

Interface-Induced Ordering of Gas Molecules Confined in a Small Space

The thermodynamic properties of gases have been understood primarily through phase diagrams of bulk gases. However, observations of gases confined in a nanometer space have posed a challenge to the principles of classical thermodynamics. Here, we investigated interfacial structures comprising either O2 or N2 between water and a hydrophobic solid surface by using advanced atomic force microscopy...

A thermo-mechanically consistent Burnett regime continuum flow equations without Chapman-Enskog expansion

Chapman-Enskog expansion is the orthodox approach to derive continuum flow models from Boltzmann’s kinetic equation for dilute gases. Beyond the Navier-Stokes-Fourier order, these models known as Burnett hydrodynamic-regime equations violate a number of fundamental mechanical and thermodynamic principles in their original forms. This has generated a widely investigated problem in the kinetic th...
